Chances is built on one principle: you are always in control of what people can see. This policy explains, in plain words, what that means technically.

Profile: a photo, an optional first name, optional social handles and an optional phone number. You provide them; you decide, person by person, who ever sees them. Your phone number is never public and is only transmitted when you deliberately share it with one person.
Location: while you are visible, your position is reduced to a coarse area (roughly a city-block cell). Your exact coordinates never leave your device, are never shown to anyone, and are never stored. Presence records expire automatically within minutes of you leaving or going invisible.
Messages: chats exist only after mutual acceptance and are deleted automatically within 24 hours of the conversation starting.
Contacts: only written, never read, and only when you tap a shared number and confirm in the system editor yourself.
Purchases: subscriptions and the Night Pass are billed by Apple. We never see or store your payment details; we only learn which plan is active.
Notifications: optional, controlled in the app's settings, and delivered by Apple's push service.
Every profile passes a live reality check. During the check, the camera captures images of your face, and your device analyzes them and compares them with your profile photo. All of this happens entirely on your phone: the camera images and the face measurements derived from them are processed in memory only, are never uploaded, are never shared with us or with any third party, and are permanently deleted the moment the check finishes, within seconds. No face data is ever stored, on your device or anywhere else, and none of it is used for any other purpose. The only result that exists afterwards is a simple verified mark on your profile.
Chances is for people 18 and older. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly store data about anyone under 18.
No advertising. No trackers. No analytics profiles. No sale or sharing of personal data with anyone, ever. Chances is financed by its subscriptions alone.
Your data is stored on your device and, where syncing is required, in your own iCloud account and Apple's CloudKit service under Apple's security. We run no servers of our own that hold your personal data.
Delete account (Settings → Edit profile) permanently removes your profile, connections, chats and settings. You may also request access, correction or deletion at any time via the address above. You can revoke location, camera and contacts permissions in iOS Settings whenever you wish.
If this policy changes, the app will tell you before the change applies.
